What to do with Discrimination?
What exactly does discrimination mean? In the Scholastic Children’s Dictionary says that discrimination means prejudice or unjust behavior to others based on difference in age, ethnicity (race), gender, religion, etc. Like the definition says discrimination comes in different form. It’s more common than going to the beach in spring. Discrimination goes back to medieval times when Africans were the first discriminated by those with white skin-color. This issue needs to be stopped for many reasons, reasons that I write in the following paragraphs. I know there is an opposite argument but it can be debatable.
Life of people with white skin-color are almost discrimination free, it’s rare when a white skinned person is discriminated. This makes it hard for someone with a tan skin-color to be discriminated. I think this should be stopped because people come here for a better future, and they work hard and try to get a job but get discriminated, and they all suffer for their ignorance by not getting the job. Sometimes they are more capable than others but get rejected for the same reason.
The second reason is that they are easily judged by ignorant people because of stereotypes, for many things like style, ethnicity, physical, religion, beliefs, food, characteristics, etc. In style they say that all rockers are lazy, dumb, and rebels, which is not true like many they wok hard for an education. In ethnicity they sometimes say that all Mexican are short, that is not true. People that go to different countries are mistreated like when I saw a video, I’m not sure when I saw it, where this young lady went to
The third reason is that my classmates are discriminated by adults in the streets. Many are that are discriminated by adult by how they look. I am sometimes discriminated because of how I look maybe they think I am a bad person when it may not be true. I interviewed two of my classmates and one of them said that she likes Rock, Metal, and Punk, she considers herself a rocker and a gothic. She says that adult look at her bad and she think it because of how she dresses. I commented about the discrimination between style themselves like fights between skater and emos, or rockers and people who like hip-hop, and she think it kind of dumb but my other interviewer said that they should stick to there own type of music. I also ask them if they thought that all rocker were lazy and dumb. She doesn’t think so, for she has good grades this year.
Many might think that because many are like stereotypes say mean that everyone like them is the same. Well they are wrong, everyone is different no one is exactly the same as the other. They don’t understand that if some share a quality that doesn’t mean everyone has the same quality. They might also say that if they don’t like how they could just leave well, sometime they seek opportunities, which they can’t find where they live.
As you read this essay I hope you realize that we need to start showing people see that mind like these might help everyone could live without the angry stares. The stereotypes and the discrimination in jobs make people not trust what they could have and lose hope. I know this is not the smallest issue I think we should make the number of people who discriminated at least decrease.
Looks fantastic Josselyn! Extra credit (even though you don't really need it).
